Studio Card #1!
Welcome to the Studio!
Welcome to the Made Collaborative Virtual Studio! Virtual Studio you ask? Yes, that’s right. The Made Collaborative Virtual Studio. Just a little something we created to help facilitate the further collaboration with youth in the development of our comic, The Back of the Yards, which itself was created as a product of early in-person collaborations with participating youth in the West Side of Chicago.
Now, as you may or may not know, this project didn’t even start out as a comic project, much less a “virtual studio.” No, in fact, this project started in 2013 as a modest community project intended to connect artists with youth to collaborate to promote creative thought. That simple premise then evolved into a comic project based on the interests and initial creative ideas of those first participating youth in the West Side of Chicago.
It was great that we were able to ultimately develop a comic based on these initial collaborative youth sessions and ideas, but on the flip side, these initial in-person collaborations took time. A lot of time. And a high degree of coordination between after school programs, youth and our own day jobs. With that in mind, we wanted to try to figure out how to scale this modest grass roots project up even further so that we could more effectively enable collaborations with other after school programs and youth, and continue to develop comics. Our solution? … To try to bring some of these basic collaborative concepts into the virtual realm.
The Studio Hyperdoc
With this inaugural Made Collaborative Studio Card production we introduce you to, well, the Made Collaborative Studio and with that, we take a quick glimpse of the early origins of this project. To help provide that overview, we have created the virtual hyperdoc below. Within this hyperdoc, you will find a few related blogs, videos and other other contextual information to help set the stage for a related collaboration opportunity just below.
When skimming through hyperdocs like the one above on this website (using the < > arrows on the bottom left corner of the hyperdoc), it might be helpful to click on the three vertical dots appearing at the bottom left, and then click on the “Enter full screen” option. And once you are done viewing the hyperdoc, just hit your “escape” key to return to this Studio Card page.
Below is a collaboration that ties to the Studio Card presented above. This particular collaboration is divided into three sections. All you have to do is read through each section and click “Next” below when you are ready to move to the next step. You will then see a prompt for your collaboration in the final section and when you are ready, just hit “Submit.”
As with all of these collaborations, we do encourage you to use old school pencil (pen) & paper as you brainstorm and prepare your submission. And, of course, you can always skip any part of this collaboration and/or come back at a later time. There will certainly always be other collaborative opportunities updated regularly here and throughout this site.
So, with that, just try to have fun with this and we will be highlighting some of your submissions here on this site and our social networking platform. And, of course, a few selected submissions will be included in our next comic publication!
