About the Scholarship Fund
The Made Collaborative Scholarship Fund provides talented urban youth with opportunities to attend fully funded pre-collegiate educational programs of all types. The youth will be selected to receive these scholarship funds by an independent third party non-profit organization, Scholarship America, based on a combination of merit and financial need.
The basic idea behind funding these pre-collegiate programs for selected urban youth is essentially the same idea behind the underlying collaborative comic-based project. The hope is that by funding these early opportunities for youth, we may be able to light a few sparks of inspiration during a particularly formative time of their own personal journeys.
The Made Collaborative Scholarship Fund was started in 2019 with a grant of $10,000 from the project’s founder, and a corresponding commitment to donate 20% of all proceeds from future Back of the Yards comics sales to the Scholarship Fund going forward, plus 100% of all net proceeds from special limited print editions of each future Back of the Yards comics issue going forward.

Interested Pre-Collegiate Programs?
As we hope to grow this scholarship program going forward, we also hope to add additional pre-collegiate programs to fund on behalf of interested urban youth. As described in our introductory blog for the Made Collaborative Scholarship Fund, we selected the Summer at Columbia College program as our first participating organization for the Made Collaborative Scholarship Fund. We chose the Columbia program because we felt it matched exactly what we were looking for as pre-collegiate program that could potentially expand the interests and aspirations of interest urban youth. And it’s in that spirit that we’d like to add other programs, both collegiate and vocational, as we continue to build the fund.
If you work for or know of any potential pre-collegiate programs, feel free to reach out directly to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and provide us with a quick summary of the relevant program and any relevant contact information so that we may respond back to you. And thank you for your interest!
Currently the application period for the next scholarship awards process is closed as we continue to assess the status of various educational programs in light of the ongoing COVID pandemic. We will provide further updates on the next round of applications here on this site and feel free to email us at email@example.com if you would like us to put you on our mail list for direct scholarship updates!
