Collaboration Summary | With this first collaboration, we will help you develop your own characters which you can use for own creative projects. You can also submit your newly created characters to us if you would like us to help further develop your character ideas, and in some instances, include these new characters as part of Back of the Yards comic series. |

Collaboration Background | At the heart of our project’s collaborative is the creation of new fictional characters. This all started in 2013 as part of a supplemental art program in the West Side of Chicago where participating youth would help create the original characters of the Back of the Yards comic series. With this collaboration, we are simply trying to extend this same collaborative opportunity to others virtually. |

The Made Collaborative Studio is fueled by your artistic contributions. We’re a community of artists and storytellers who want to build something supportive for creatives of all backgrounds and ages.
We encourage you to participate in our collaborative community by showing off some of your work. We may feature your artwork in the future.
First, as with all of our Action Card Collaborations, we present a few Source and Character Cards that we will be referencing further within each step below in relation to this Action Card collaboration. Introducing
Back of the Yards!
A Map of The
Hero’s Journey
Quite logically we will begin this set of character collaborations by giving you the opportunity to create your own character! Just review the notes provided below if you’d like to learn more about what we are currently focused on for purposes of the comic (if you’d like us to consider your character to include in future issues), and then follow the steps above.
Good luck with your collaboration and remember, just have fun with it!
This entire comic project started when one youth boldly proclaimed, “I have an idea, and it’s going to be great!” From there, the young student began to develop the character of Andre Davis and with that, our collective creative journey would begin in the form of this comic series.
With this collaborative Action Card series, we offer you the same creative opportunity to develop your own character (or characters). Of course, you can use these characters for your own independent projects, or if you’d like, you can submit these characters to us for further development and, potentially, inclusion within our comic series going forward.
Just remember, all we are doing is providing you a template to help with your character development. There’s nothing magical about this template, and it is COMPLETELY optional. So skip any steps that don’t work for you, and more than anything, just have fun with this. It’s not homework. At the end of the day, we are just spitballing creative ideas and building a comic series together collaboratively.
