Welcome to The Made Collaborative Virtual Studio!
What
Made Collaborative is an immersive virtual studio experience. Our virtual Studio Cards are designed to facilitate collaboration with you by providing you with context on topics, concepts, characters and some of the people behind or Creative Commons comic project called the Back of the Yards.
Why
The Made Collaborative Studio was developed by Jimmy Briseno and Len Kody. Len and Jimmy began developing this virtual platform in 2020 when COVID emerged as a way of extending their original in-person classroom comic collaborations in the west side of Chicago to the virtual realm.
Who
In addition to Len and Jimmy, other project collaborators include John Golden, Eric Nyamor, Dan Dougherty and Manny Dominguez.
Welcome to the Made Collaborative
Virtual Studio Platform!
Welcome to Made Collaborative Studio – a living, community-driven creative space where new comic stories are built together.
At the heart of the Studio is a core team of participating artists – our Studio Directors – who guide the creative vision and shape each issue. Surrounding them is a growing Studio Network: contributors of all backgrounds, including youth, after-school programs, and people just like you, all helping bring each comic story to life.
Participation is simple and structured. Contributors can engage through “Let’s Collaborate” prompts in our featured virtual Studio Cards and curated Issue Dossiers (each as further described below), offering ideas, characters, and story elements that evolve through collaboration.
Whether you’re here to explore, contribute, or collaborate, you will always be stepping into a story that’s still being written. So if you are interested in learning more, just scroll down and we invite you to join the collaborative experience!
Our Current Issue Dossier
Each virtual studio session is anchored by the development of a comic issue – and every issue begins in Pre-Production. In this phase, our Studio Directors work together to shape story themes, develop featured characters, and define the creative direction. Through regular virtual workshops, these ideas evolve into a working manuscript, which is then captured in an Issue Dossier – a curated issue production guide that brings together story summaries, key themes, and featured collaborations to help frame your role in the creative process.
For this studio session, our collaborative focus is the development and production of Issue 3 of the Back of the Yards comic series.

We will use this Issue Dossier to guide the Production phase of our comic development – and this is where the story opens to you. Through the Featured Studio Cards below, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with us, with selected contributions evolving through ongoing workshops alongside our Studio Directors.
